Playground
The playground at McEuen Park is a highlight of Coeur d’Alene for kids of all ages. It features the city’s largest playground, a safe splash pad, basketball/tennis courts, and a 4-acre off-leash dog park. The park also houses the Avista Pavilion, Grand Plaza, Veterans and K27 Memorials, and the Harbor House Restaurant.
The park’s merry-go-round isn’t your typical carousel. Instead of traditional cylinders, this one dispenses colored plastic rings that the kids grab onto while riding. It keeps them coming back again and again.
If you’re looking for a little more adventure, Timberline Adventures has an office in the Coeur d’Alene Plaza Shops where they sell tickets for zip-lining tours. They offer four different tour options, each costing $100 or so per person.
Splash Pad
The park features a huge playground structure, a splash pad that is perfect for kids on a hot summer day, and tons of things to climb. You can also find tennis courts, basketball courts, impressive pavilions, and paved bike and walking paths. There are plenty of picnic areas to enjoy a lunch or snack with the family.
Scenic Lake Coeur d’Alene backdrops the city’s downtown district, which is lined with small shops and local bars. Recreational activities include scenic strolls along a waterfront promenade, fishing and boating on the lake, and watching seaplanes and passing boats on the water.
The city is also home to several major companies including mining company Hecla Mining and Buck Knives. It is the origin of the song “Coeur d’Alene” by the band Alter Bridge. Browse around this site to check more places to visit.
Dog Park
With separate dog runs for larger and smaller dogs, this Coeur d’Alene park is a hit with furry visitors. With parking available and poop bags readily at hand, this dog park also provides plenty of seating.
The massive park recently got a $20 million facelift. It’s now a premier destination along the city’s beautiful lake with a playground, splash pad, tennis/pickleball courts, and an off-leash dog park.
Grab a cup of coffee at one of downtown’s many options, then let your pup run free in the park. After a long day of play, go for a walk around Tubbs Hill. The park is also home to a boardwalk and Osprey nests so keep an eye out for these birds! You can always catch a game at one of the local sports venues as well.
Picnic Areas
There are lots of picnic areas in the park that are perfect for a quick bite to eat. There are also grills to use if you want to cook out.
Take the trail around Tubbs Hill for a great view over Lake Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding mountains. The loop is 2.3 miles long and offers stunning vistas. Wildflowers like trillium and glacier lilies can be seen along the way, especially in late spring.
The City Park, located on the lake waterfront, features a wooden playground and beach area as well as picnic areas. You can also play basketball or tennis/pickleball at the pristine courts. The City Park is also the site of the K27 Memorial, a fountain dedicated to a local police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Events
McEuen Park is an entertaining destination year-round, whether you’re looking to burn off some energy on 2 full-size basketball courts or hit the tennis courts. It’s also a great place to kick back on the lawn and take in one of the summer concerts that can accommodate 5,000 guests.
Other popular activities at the park include taking a guided segway tour, hiking or biking the trails around Tubbs Hill, and enjoying bald eagle watching in winter. A huge pavilion called Avista Pavillion is perfect for picnicking and hosting major events.
